Charli XCX recently supported her friend Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975, after a controversial event at a concert in Malaysia. During the Good Vibes Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Matty kissed his bandmate Ross MacDonald on stage. This incited much debate considering same-sex relationships are forbidden in Malaysia.
Charli addressed this topic on the Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music. She asserted, “I consider it somewhat divisive; however, I maintain that exceptional art is intrinsically divisive.” Charli valued Matty for expressing his beliefs and clearly conveying his ideas.
She expressed that Matty is like a brother to her and that she respects him greatly as both a songwriter and a person.
The 1975 is presently encountering legal issues stemming from the kiss, as event organizers pursue reparations.
