Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a form of cancer of the bone marrow. He is in treatment while serving time at Rikers Island in New York. This comes as Weinstein awaits his second trial on charges of sex crimes.
Weinstein’s health hasn’t been good for some time. He recently had an emergency operation where he was operated on for his heart; he also went through COVID-19 and double pneumonia. But aside from health considerations, he is currently in jail and getting ready to appear in court.
This was after his 2020 rape and sexual assault conviction was overturned early this year. More yet, Weinstein faces more sexual assault charges to undergo a trial which is soon to commence. The lawyers appeal the previous convictions while he defends these latest ones.
