The story takes place in San Francisco city in 1981. A family man Chris Gardner (Will Smith) invest all of his saving to buy Bone-density scanners. This apparatus was twice as expensive as an x-ray but gives a clearer image than x-ray. After spending all his money in buying Bone-Density Scanners, he finds himself left with nothing. His wife Linda (Thandiwe Newton) abandons the family. The financially broke father have to take care of his five years old son, Christopher (Jaden Smith) all by himself. The prestigious stock brokerage firm of Dean Witters offers him an unpaid internship for six month. Now for the son , Chris is willing to take the internship and is willing to go to great lengths of succeed. Can he make his dream come true?
